Adaptive Tech

At the Fab Lab, we have had the opportunity to prototype several components designed to meet the specialized needs of people with physical limitations.  We have created ad-hock teams made up of Fab Lab community: student interns, designers, engineers and architects in order to do so.

We created a structure that provided a disabled individual access to basic functions of a celluar phone. Students started creating a base, upon which the cell phone will rest, and a curved structure, as to provide support to the base. Tabs upon the bottom and sides of the structure create a barrier, as to insure that her phone is unable to accidentally dislodge itself from its base. Later, velcro strips will be applied to both the back of the phone and the front of the base, which insures an absence of any accidental removals while still allowing for easy access. Lastly we were attempting to find a way to provide easy access to the buttons that rest upon the sides of the phone, seeing as how the only access will be through a stylus held by the teeth.
