Field Trip to UCSD- Fourth Day

Day 4

Today, we went on a field trip to UCSD. We first took a tour inside a building called Calit2 and went inside a little movie theater. We watched little clips and videos taken by a 4k camera and projected by a 4k projector. We were then led into another room with a lot of 3-d technology. Right when we walked in, there was a special 3-D video that you could see without using actual 3-D glasses. Inside, there was a really cool feature called the “Cave”, where you were able to zoom in and out of 3-D pictures (sometimes it made it seem like you were actually going inside) We saw a piece of public art called “the Bear” and it was made out of gigantic rocks. We kept walking until we reached the Geisel Library. It has an extremely cool shape and probably has at least three floors to it. We also saw the Supercomputer center and the Fab Lab. On our way back, we saw another piece of public art (UCSD has a lot of public art) called the “Singing Tree”. It is a man made tree that “sings” random songs (it has a hidden speaker that we found) . We waited for about 5 minutes when it started to belt out random rock & roll tunes. It was kind of surprising, since I was expecting something more calm and peaceful. We all had a great time, except I was a little worn out on the bus ride back to LJCD. 🙂
